Vital Records 101

An introduction to vital events and health statistics

The 2025 Vital Records 101 training will be in Nashville, TN. The training is a collaboration between NAPHSIS and the Division of Vital Statistics within the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). It is designed for staff who are new to their roles and have less than 5 years of experience within a vital records office.

Registration Closes December 13, 2024. You will be notified on or before December 20, 2024 on the status of your application. Registration is free to vital records and health statistics staff, but attendees are responsible for their travel expenses. The course topics include the history of vital statistics, NCHS data quality reports, amendments, issuance, Model Law, data sharing, data quality improvement, training resources/tools, the structure of NCHS and NAPHSIS, modernization, and NAPHSIS systems. Attendees will also have opportunities to share recent projects, office structure, policies, and procedures. Attendees will also hear from other jurisdictions on how they address common issues and concerns.
